I took a great walk through MinÂisÂtik Lake Game Bird SancÂtuÂary yesÂterÂday afterÂnoon — always one of my favourite places to phoÂtoÂgraph (click here to see why). The weather we’ve had this year has been just right for growÂing mushÂrooms (warm days, lots of afterÂnoon showÂers), and there was a fanÂtasÂtic selecÂtion of beauÂtiÂful species on show. I’ll not write too much, just post a bunch of phoÂtos to inspire those of you who — like myself — have both phoÂtoÂgraphic and mycoÂlogÂiÂcal tenÂdenÂcies, to go out and find some fungi.
- Shaggy Mane
- Bolete
- White Anise-scented Clitocybe
- Bracket mushroom
- Scaly Hedgehog
- NorthÂern Roughstem
- Green Russula
- Puffball

- Branched Hericium
- NorthÂern Russula
P.S. My mushÂroom ID skills are not terÂriÂble, but do not take my word that these are what I say they are. Instead, I’d recÂomÂmend takÂing the word of Helene M.E. Schalkwijk-Barendsen in her gorÂgeous book MushÂrooms of NorthÂwest North AmerÂica by local EdmonÂton pubÂlishÂing comÂpany, Lone Pine.
And, on that note, if you think I’ve gotÂten the ID wrong on any of these or you can be more speÂcific (latin names would be great!) I would really appreÂciÂate a note left in the comments.
